Solar Panel Installation on R-Pod 192 Camper

Our 2023 R-Pod 192 came with a 200 watt solar panel already installed. We were looking for more for off-grid camping.

CAMPER MODIFICATION

Our solar upgrade started months ago when we took out our battery and added a Bluette RV5 system to our camper. To learn more about this see our blog section on the installation.

Supplies used

We choose to use BougeRV Arch Pro 200 Watt Solar Panels along with BougeRV Flexible Solar Penel Waterproof Butyl Rubber tape from Amazon. We also used self adhesive cable zip tie mounts to secure the cables.

Steps

  1. The First step was to measure and figure out how many panels and where they will go. We did this using cardboard cut out to the size of the panels.

  2. Once we figured out that we could fit 3 panels we ordered them.

  3. On a nice spring day we cleaned the roof with soap and water and let it dry.

  4. We then cut the tape and mounted it on the back of the panels with a solid strip along the side of the panel that would face the front of the camper. We then left a little space for air flow and put the remaining strips of tape going from front to back with some space between them.

  5. To stick the panels we removed all the backing and with a person on each side lowered the panel into place. Note: Once you stick part of it down it will not move!

  6. We connected the wires together and ran them down inside the awning track to a gland we had installed to go to our RV5 system. Without the RV5 system you will need to figure out how to connect to your inverter/battery.
